In a nutshell

I have a large outdoor garden Koi pond.

Version 2

My Koi pond holds 17,500 gallons or 80,000 litres of water.

My Koi pond is 2.35m deep and it has four bottom drains.

These four bottom drains supply water to my filter system by gravity.

My filter system only holds 90 gallons or 410 litres of water.

The flow-rate through my filter system is only 2,500 gallons (11,300 litres) per hour by way of a single (low running cost) water pump that costs less than £4.00 per week to run.

My water quality readings are all absolutely perfect, my water clarity is the same and all my Koi are feeding and growing – all thanks for this must go to my filter system.

I carry out a 1.7% daily water change on my Koi pond to keep the water ‘fresh’ – after I have first removed 1.7% of ‘tired water’ to waste; at the same time I clean both the mechanical and the biological stages of my filter system. I can do all this in just over four minutes and then have a brand new filter system every single day.

If I decide not to do this for a month or so, then it has no adverse effect on the overall filter performance because it cannot possibly block.

All of this revolves around common sense, economy and simplicity.

But enough of all this ‘nutshell stuff’………

This is not a glossy advertisement that one can see on the Internet or in Koi magazines.

This is an actual working garden Koi pond in the UK that’s already been working for quite some time.

So instead of taking my word for all this, you are welcome to come and view it all with your own eyes – ask questions, take photos or videos and I’ll even demonstrate it for you!

Just send me an email to infilkoi@gmail.com so we can arrange a date that’s convenient for both of us.

Paying a visit is so much better than reading words or looking at pictures – isn’t it?

Finally – here’s wishing a happy Christmas to you all.

Waddy.
