A response to KoiMag Forum

People have been urging me to check this thread out all day long so here are a few home thoughts directly from me although I am not allowed to post directly.

Firstly, let me clarify what Ponderer has said because it’s the truth.

I really do not have a bunch of people/friends in my employ to promote my filters.

I can say absolutely truthfully that I had never spoken to any of these people before they contacted me to buy my filters.

What they say of my filters are their very own words – not mine.

Although I do admit to contacting them all after installations had been made in order to get their comments.

This next part may come over to some as ‘advertising’ when I stated way back in November 2009 that my filters were the finest in pond filtration that money could buy – I much prefer to call it ‘truth’ rather than ‘advertising’ and still do.

It is not possible to discuss the actual worth of any new product unless comparisons can be made with the entire competition and I knew the biggest hurdle I would have to overcome was the truth about the significant failings of upward-flow boxes especially as a staggering 90% of systems used all around the world employ them.

For upward-flow boxes I’m including the ones termed as ‘block-built’; ‘rise and fall’; ‘multi-chambers’; ‘single chambers’; ‘bead filters’; ‘sand filters’ and the rest – these are all simply upward-flow boxes fed either by gravity or by pump and it’s irrelevant if the media inside is static or moving.

They all work on the principle that we all actually believe that all the water already in the box is magically forced out of the box by the new water coming in from the pond – another outright impossibility.

(The fact that I too was completely fooled into thinking that upward-flow was the way to go for some 23 wasted years of my (filtration) life, is a clanger so simple that any decent plumber could have explained to me how utterly stupid my beliefs actually were.)

Sorry if this offends but upward-flow boxes cannot possibly get more than 15% of the incoming water to come into contact with the media surfaces in those boxes.

Please also consider this, I have been explaining this clanger since November 2009 and still not one manufacturer of any upward-flow boxes has ever dared to challenge my explanations, instead they choose to take the wise path and leave the truth well alone by choosing to remain silent.

I have never once stated that my boxes eliminate nps but I can easily understand why this occurs in the vast majority of installations and that’s simply because the incoming water cannot possibly avoid coming into contact with all media surfaces before it is allowed to exit the boxes.

In short, it has far more contact time and the longer the contact time, the shorter the nps takes to kick in – there’s also so much more to explain about this aspect.

However, all of this is merely academic because forums such as these are made up of a wide variety of members, some are old school, others are also old school who wish to re-think for a change and then there are other newcomers who are seeking valid information.

In short, the latter (newcomers) are the ones who need sound advice from others to prevent them from making costly mistakes from the outset.

The old school members are absolutely firm in their beliefs that what they ‘think’ works for them should be passed on to the newcomers simply because they ‘think’ it works for them and so their experiences must be passed on as a yardstick.

A reminder – there’s much more to ‘water quality’ than stable pH, nitrite and ammonia readings!

However, the truth is that many of the old schools are landed with the systems they have, and most know they are also suffering severe bouts of buyer’s remorse, which is extremely difficult to come to terms with.

In view of this they vent their anger towards ‘the nigger in the woodpile’ who they blame totally for their buyer’s remorse – in this instance ME!

Why blame me?

I’m only the messenger and I didn’t sell them their existing filter!

Take it from me, the favourable comments made about my filters on this thread came directly from the ones actually making those posts – I had nothing to do with any of these.

I’m just happy that they and their Koi are happy.

Thanks for taking the time to read, Waddy.
